Steuben Learning Summer Extension

Date: November 15, 2019 Category:

Since 1994, the United Way of the Southern Tier has worked with the community to support critical human service programs in Steuben and Chemung counties. In recent years, the United Way began to focus strategically on early childhood development, school readiness, and third grade student proficiency, all critical for long-term achievement and success.

Program: Southern Tier Kids on Track – Steuben Summer Learning Extension

Through this program, and in partnership with ProAction, Inc., the United Way addresses summer learning loss, an identified problem for all children, including those entering kindergarten. The end result of this project is an anticipated retention and/or improvement of cognitive and social/emotional development for children age 4 who are transitioning from Head Start to kindergarten in the fall.
