Horseheads Family Resource Center

The Horseheads Family Resource Center (HFRC) is a dynamic community organization that is filling a local need by offering quality early learning experiences for children, experienced mentoring for families, and a supportive environment for parent networking.  Since beginning operation in 2008, the HFRC has proven to be a very popular program with families from across the Southern Tier, with families from thirty-four (34) unique zip codes participating.

The HFRC formally partners with Chemung County Family Court and the Department of Social Services, through court mandated supervised visits.

Program:  Building Bridges

Open hours and other programming provide a place for parents to ask questions about their children, opinions on whether or not intervention programs are necessary and where to turn when these resources are needed.

Free, open hours are at the core of the Center’s operation and include two play spaces: a playroom with creative play such as dress-up, Playdoh, painting, and building blocks; and a gym for more physical play featuring climbing structures, basketball, and riding toys. Outdoor activities also include a playground, pavilion and picnic tables and a roped off area in the parking lots for safe bike riding during summer months. Homework assistance is also available for all interested families.
