The Chemung County Historical Society (CCHS) was founded in 1923 and has been at its current location on Water Street in Elmira since 1982. CCHS is the primary repository for the region’s history and cultural heritage. The Chemung Valley Museum actively promotes a better understanding of this history through exhibits, programs and outreach programs to the general public, local schools and area visitors
Program: STEAM Ahead Chemung
STEAM Ahead Chemung is modeled after the successful Garden of Fire in Steuben County where arts and cultural organizations partner with community centers to provide unique learning opportunities to children in underprivileged communities.
In partnership with the Tanglewood Nature Center, the Science & Discovery Center, the Arnot Art Museum, Corning Museum of Glass, Community Arts of Elmira, Friends of the Chemung River, and Namaste Spa, the Chemung County Historical Society will provide educational programming to young people at the Southside Community Center, the Frontline Youth Center and the Neighborhood Transformation Center, beginning in September 2017.
